Ogden's Vitality
Economic Development is the engine that drives the financial growth and health of a city like Ogden and its’ residents.
- Through smart economic development, Ogden residents will benefit with an opportunity for better paying jobs and a higher standard of living.
- Homeowners in Ogden will enjoy less pressure to support City services with their property taxes. Instead, a vibrant business community will contribute to the City in the form of their Taxes. In turn, this will benefit Ogden City’s budget so that;
o Streets, sidewalks and curb and gutter can be improved
o City infrastructure can be modernized
o City Parks can be renovated and provided greater care and attention
o Recreation programs can grow
o Recreation facilities can be developed
Economic Development is working on several areas.

· Overall, placemaking is about creating public places in a community that are welcoming, functional, safe, and enjoyable for all who use them. These public spaces should also reflect the unique character
and identity of Ogden.
Redevelopment in Ogden
- Economic Revitalization: Ogden’s Redevelopment Agency plays a vital role in attracting investments, businesses, and development projects to the area. By revitalizing specific properties in the city, they can create a more vibrant and appealing environment that attracts new businesses, tourists, and residents. This, in turn, can lead to increased economic activity, job opportunities, and a boost to the local economy.
- Preservation of our Historic Heritage: Ogden has a rich history. Preserving our unique heritage and character of Historic 25th Street and Union Station, among others, is essential. The City Redevelopment Agency can work towards restoring historic buildings, improving infrastructure, and enhancing public spaces while maintaining the town's historical charm. This not only adds cultural value but also creates a sense of pride among residents and can attract heritage tourism.
- Increased Property Values: Through their efforts, the City Redevelopment Agency can positively impact property values in Ogden. As areas undergo revitalization, property values tend to rise, benefiting homeowners, attracting real estate investment, and generating additional tax revenues for the city.
Some examples of redevelopment in Ogden include the Oak Den and Stone Hill homes in the East Central neighborhood. Our historic, but abandoned stock yards and administrative building, is another example of the power of a smart redevelopment agency. Additional projects coming very soon are Capitol Square and the Wonder Block.
By supporting the City Redevelopment Agency, we endorse a vision for a vital historic city, fostering economic growth, preserving heritage, improving our quality of life, and building a sustainable future for the community and its residents.
I support a broad spectrum of housing options in Ogden
It is important that Ogden offer a broad spectrum of housing as it will support diversity, affordability, workforce availability, economic growth, urban development, and resilience. It is a fundamental aspect of creating inclusive and thriving cities that meet the needs of all residents.
- Diversity and Inclusivity: A broad spectrum of housing options allows for a diverse and inclusive community. It accommodates individuals and families with different income levels, backgrounds, and housing needs. This promotes social cohesion, reduces segregation, and fosters a sense of belonging among residents.
- Affordable Housing: Housing affordability is a critical issue in many cities. By offering a range of housing options, including affordable housing units, the city can address the needs of low-income individuals and families. This helps ensure that people of all income levels can find suitable housing in Ogden and prevents displacement due to rising costs.
- Workforce Availability: A diverse housing market supports a diverse workforce. When a city provides housing options for various income levels, it becomes easier for workers to live near their places of employment. This reduces commute times, eases traffic congestion, and promotes a healthier work-life balance. It also enables businesses to attract and retain employees from a wider talent pool.
- Economic Growth: A well-rounded housing market contributes to overall economic growth. It attracts new residents, businesses, and investors to the city. Offering a range of housing options enhances local consumer spending, and drives demand for local goods and services. It also supports the construction industry and creates jobs in related sectors.
- Urban Development and Vibrancy: A diverse housing market can spur urban development and create vibrant neighborhoods. It allows for a mix of residential, commercial, and cultural spaces, fostering a lively and walkable city. Different types of housing, such as apartments, townhouses, and single-family homes, contribute to a varied architectural landscape and can promote a sense of pride and identity within different communities.
- Resilience and Stability: A city with a broad spectrum of housing options is more resilient to economic fluctuations. It is less susceptible to housing market bubbles and provides stability in times of economic downturn. Offering affordable and diverse housing helps mitigate the negative impacts of housing crises and ensures that residents have access to safe and stable housing options.
